Margarita Syrocheva is a Russian-born scenic designer and multidisciplinary artist whose work spans theatre, film, interactive performance, and exhibition design. She holds an M.F.A. in Scenic Design from the University of Maryland and a B.F.A. in Stage Technology from the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts in Saint Petersburg.

Her design practice centers on sculptural monumentality and cross-cultural artistic exchange. Margarita explores how scenic design can be both poetic and functional – deeply emotional through color and composition, yet conceptually grounded. Beyond the stage, her work unfolds as multimedia storytelling that merges traditional craft with contemporary conceptualism, drawing inspiration from architecture, postmodern art, and the textures of human experiences.

Her recent credits include The Dragon, a scorching satire of authoritarian regimes (Spooky Action Theater, DC); DANCE², an interactive performance exploring human-robot relationships (PRAx, Oregon State University); Hip Hop Anansi, a youth theatre production featuring design-integrated captions for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences; and Emma, a reimagined Jane Austen classic (The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center). International credits include productions in Moscow, Kazan, and Saint Petersburg.

I believe life should be filled with smiles and creative adventures! As a designer, I bring bold ideas, a fearless approach to experimentation, and a passion for turning imagination into reality. Outside of design, I enjoy recreational figure skating, teaching English to non-native speakers, and exploring new cultures through travel. I speak several languages and am always eager to learn more.
